Wines from the Rhone area:

Wine and the Rhone river: a love story that has been going strong for 2000 years. A legacy of the Romans, vineyards have left their mark on the landscapes in the Saône valley, the area west of Lyon, and the Rhône valley. From Saint Amour in the North to Condrieu further south, the Rhône's various AOC offer the most sophisticated connoisseurs a diverse range of subtle flavours. We are part of the "Vignobles & Découvertes" scheme, promoting the social element of sharing wine together: www.ilsvienneatoi.com/actualites-vienne-pays-roussillonnais/oenotourisme-la-vallee-du-rhone-condrieu-cote-rotie-elue-vignobles-et-decouvertes-label-national/.

Côtes du Rhone

The so-called "vin de Vienne" was on Ancient Roman dinner tables over 2 millennia ago. It is now enjoying a renaissance, and is central to the gastronomic heritage of the Rhône. Vines jutting out from the steep hillsides marked out by the river dominate the landscape from the South of Lyon as far as Avignon.
The Rhône department is fortunate enough to be home to the two most prestigious crus of the appellation: Côte Rôtie and Condrieu.
Spread over three communes in the department, the Côte Rôtie AOC, one of the oldest in France, produces well-bodied red wines composed mainly of the Syrah (red), Viognier, Marsanne and Rousanne (white) grapes. Condrieu, produced in an area measuring just 150 hectares, is a white wine based exclusively on the Viognier grape.
